Cherish or perish!!
Dear friends,
Here is the first post on my new blog on a special day! The day is
special as it is my beloved father’s birthday!! I dedicate this post to the
best teacher, mathematician, orator, singer, spiritual seeker, and sensible self-less
human being: my late father…
Dictionary meaning “cherish”: “to protect and care for (someone) lovingly”
Dictionary meaning “perish”:
·
To die or to be
killed
·
To disappear or to
be destroyed: to cease to exist
·
To slowly break
apart by a natural process
Using this definition as a springboard, let’s see how this translates to
an enduring and joyful technical career. For teaching academia the definition
implies as:
Cherish
the “domain of expertise (with introspection and continual improvement)”
or
Perish “be
ready to vanish due to lack of technical self-updationas per the time demands”
It is high time to introspect for academia people. The industries are
demanding quality products (students) and to put in the “expected” quality into
product, we need to change ourselves and adapt to the world of facts! We the
technical teachers need to adapt to new technologies and to come out of our
comfort zones.
The time is demanding LEAP model i.e.:
Ø Learn
Ø Explore
Ø Adapt and
Ø Practice
The
time has come to nurture a particular domain of expertise, hold it and:
Ø Learn new avenues in
the domain,
Ø Explore state-of-art
technologies in this domain,
Ø Adapt to the best one
and
Ø Practice to survive!
